The Community Adjustment Strategy, “ReThink. ReNew. ReTool” is now available for download.
Major economic restructuring continues across North America and globally. As a result of increased global competition and rising costs, the City of Oshawa and the Region of Durham have experienced significant layoffs and plant closures, primarily within the automotive sector. The impacts of these layoffs and plant closures are having a cumulative effect throughout the Region in a variety of sectors.
A Community Adjustment Committee has been formed with representatives from a broad spectrum of interests including manufacturing, service, education, government and healthcare from across the Region. The City of Oshawa is the lead on this project.
The purpose of this project is to undertake a thorough analysis of the local labour market and to develop a comprehensive Community Adjustment Strategy. The strategy will build on the strengths of the Region, identify opportunities for growth and create opportunities for the enhancement of programs and initiatives within the area with both short and long term objectives.
